Monday, March 17
Lenten Choral Evensong
On Sunday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m. a special service of choral Evensong will be offered at St. Alfred’s Episcopal Church, 1601 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor. The service will be sung by St. Alfred’s Parish Choir of Adults under the direction of Kevin Johnson, Organist and Choirmaster. This service is offered to enrich the observance of the Lenten season. It has been sung daily since the 16th century in cathedrals, collegiate chapels and parish churches around the world. Evensong is a uniquely Anglican service which includes the reading of holy scripture and the chanting of psalms, canticles and prayers by the choir and hymns sung by the congregation. The music for the service will include two anthems written by contemporary American composers. All are welcome; a free will offering will be received for the benefit of the music program. Other Lenten Prayer Resources The church will be open for prayer during the Lenten season, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. You may enter and exit by the North door, (closest to the parking lot). Inside the church you will find books for reading and reflection, and a prayer station that offers a particular perspective on our journey through Lent. The resources will change weekly. Stop by and see what's new. Clothing Shed A shed has been placed in our parking lot to collect used clothing for charitable organizations. St. Alfred's will earn funds based on the number of pounds of clothes collected. Spread the word to your friends and neighbors. Coffee Hour Hosts Needed Volunteer Hosts are needed each Sunday to set up for Coffee Hour before the 10:00 service, and to clean up at the end. Providing refreshments is not up to the host(s) - all attendees are encouraged to bring them.
