The David R. Moores Center for Church Music & the Arts

Throughout the process of designing and building for the installation of our Casavant Organ, it was clear that we were building on the work of others, and we felt that it was important to acknowledge and respect that work.  Fr. Moores, St. Alfred’s second Rector, was a concert organist and an active member of the American Guild of Organists. When the current church building was constructed during his rectorate, the eventuality of a pipe organ was made part of the plan. To that end, the Vestry approved the formation of The David R. Moores Center for Church Music & the Arts.  This is an entity under the umbrella of St. Alfred’s Episcopal Church that has been developed for the advancement of music and the arts not only at St. Alfred’s but also in the greater Palm Harbor community.  The Casavant Organ is the keystone of this Center and a focal point for St. Alfred’s Worship, Education, Entertainment and Outreach now and in the future.  As we develop this Center, we hope to provide musical and arts education to youth and adults through not only the Church-related programs of choirs and instrumental performances, but also to create a center for private instruction in Organ and Piano to help encourage and grow the next generation of Church musicians.  It will be a Center dedicated to quality Choral and Instrumental Music at St. Alfred’s now and in the future.
