St. Alfred's Organ:  Our Organ was designed by Casavant Freres, of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada. The Casavant Opus 3951 has three Manuals and Pedals, 32 Ranks and 27 Stops with a total of 2,019 pipes in four Divisions (Great, Swell, Antiphonal, and Pedal).

The organ was delivered June 6, 2023 and installed over a period of six weeks.  It was heard for the first time at worship on Sunday July 23, 2023.  The organ was blessed by the Rt. Rev. Douglas Scharf, Bishop of the Diocese of Southwest Florida on Sunday, October 22, 2023.  The Dedicatory Recital was given by Thomas Sheehan, Organist at the Washington National Cathedral, on Friday, October 27, 2023.

Early on, it was the intent of St. Alfred’s to have a Pipe Organ.  The original plans for the church building included a space adjacent to the Choir area in the southeast corner of the church dedicated to an Organ Chamber.

In 2007, Scott R. Riedel and Associates was selected to design a new Choir Loft and additional space for a Pipe Organ.  This work was completed in 2009.  Casavant used two new platforms designed by Riedel, located up and behind the Choir, for the Great and Pedal Divisions of the Organ.  The existing Organ chamber, to the left of the Choir, provided an ideal place for the enclosed Swell division.

The Antiphonal division is artistically installed above the west doors of the Nave of the church surrounding the circular window that frames a view of the mural on the Narthex ceiling. By virtue of its location, the Antiphonal helps to support and lead congregational singing.  This division also includes the Herald Trumpet as the pièce de resistance, bringing a glorious sound to celebrations of great importance.

The appearance of the organ was designed to be in harmony with the architecture of the church.  In other words, the organ was made to look “at home” in the building.  The layout of the casework and façade pipes echoes the roofline of the interior of the church. The casework is made of red oak and stained to match the existing woodwork.  The cases are not only beautiful, but also serve to unify and project the sound of the Organ.

Through concerts and services, the Organ has broadened awareness of St. Alfred’s in the greater Tampa Bay community.
